AfriCOBRA: Art For The People, a new documentary produced by TvLand. The video is a group of artists founded by American artist Jeff Donaldson in 1968 in Chicago, along with Wadsworth Jarrell, Barbara Jones-Hogue and Gerald Williams.
AfriCobra – African Commune of Bad Relevant part of the concept of Trans Artists, redemption in civil and political moves of African Americans for all the practices and artistic experiences. African art – the art of the Dogon masks, for example, is not art objects in isolation but is part of an apparatus made of ritual music, dance, myth. In the vision of a strongly political AfriCobra born so in practice (not politicized in the strict sense), art activities with a solid aesthetic foundation.
The group, still standing after forty years, has created a common aesthetic vision and created a movement to help young artists, which promotes social change.
The AfriCobra Movement exhibit(s) rekindled a desire to re-explore the Black Arts Movement in Chicago and in the United State in general. This year, 2013, has been a sincere showering of ‘reveals’ in Black related topics; from the physics of adrinka symbols to the symbols being related to computer programing and possibly, Black artists influence on artists by Chuck Close. This is really an urban renewal at it’s best.
Sincerely
Marian Hayes
