Fay Al Homoud, creator of q8streetart, says about her project:
“It is basically an account that was first created about a year ago on Instagram to showcase the emerging street art in Kuwait.
I myself have always had a fascination with street art. Being a photographer and traveler street art has always caught my attention and the different styles I’ve come across in different countries has made me gain a much deeper appreciation towards the artists for having the freedom and ability to display their work in the streets.
Street art to me is a form of expressing things that cannot easily be put into words, it’s a gateway for people to open their minds and be exposed to art in its many forms. Words and images are powerful and when you see splashes of color on a dull wall it catches your attention making you stand there in silence analyzing every paint stroke thinking what the artists message is.
It is a great feeling to see street art emerging in the Arab world especially here in Kuwait where it is becoming more popular, it went from something that was completely unnoticed to many people wanting to be part of it resulting into more street art emerging. I am starting to notice that people are finding other ways of expressing their opinions and feelings about different subjects knowing that their message will get across whether it be to one person or 100 that massage has reached it’s target. The reason I started the Q8 Street Art account on Instagram is because I wanted to showcase these art pieces to the world making people see a different side of Kuwait that many have been unaware of.”
