The British Council and CAP are pleased to invite you to a talk by Alia Farid on
The Role of Monuments in the Construction of Landscapes
on Sunday 27th May, 7:30pm at Contemporary Art Platform Kuwait.
In the lead up to the Out of Britain exhibition (19th September – 25th October 2012), the British Council in collaboration with CAP, will run a series of events and lectures that will explore landscapes in contemporary Kuwait and the Middle East.
Farid’s talk presents the significant role of monuments in the construction of landscapes and the making of their histories. This talk will present a general introduction to the formal language of monuments and will query the impact of their influence. It aspires to articulate how people respond to monuments, and how artists have taken advantage of this medium to intervene in the urban landscape.
The talk will focus on examples developed in the Middle East, but will make reference to projects developed in Europe, The United States, and South America as supporting material.
Alia Farid is a Kuwaiti Artist and Curator.
